Neuronal differentiation distinguishes supratentorial and infratentorial childhood ependymomas.
Ependymomas are glial neoplasms occurring in any location throughout the central nervous system and supposedly are derived from radial glia cells. Recent data suggest that these tumors may have different biological and clinical behaviors according to their location. Pediatric supratentorial and infratentorial ependymoma (SE and IE) were compared with respect to clinical and radiological paramet...
متن کاملMolecular alterations in ependymomas.
Ependymal tumours are uncommon neoplasms of the central nervous system. Basic molecular alterations underlying their development are not so well defined in contrast to the astrocytic tumours. We compiled literature data on the molecular changes in ependymomas to show clinical and pathological correlations and review the prognostic factors that may much better predict their clinical behaviour.

OBJECTIVE Survival rates and prognostic factors for supratentorial hemispheric ependymomas have not been determined. The authors therefore designed a retrospective study to determine progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and prognostic factors for hemispheric ependymomas. METHODS The study population consisted of 8 patients from our institution and 101 patients from the litera...
متن کاملEpidermal growth factor receptor and caveolin-1 coexpression identifies adult supratentorial ependymomas with rapid unfavorable outcomes.
Supratentorial ependymomas account for a minority of intracranial ependymomas, which still have uncertain prognostic markers. Among them, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpression correlates with a poor prognosis. In glioblastoma cells, EGFR function has been reported to be regulated by its migration from cell membrane infoldings called caveolae and by its colocalization with the c...
